SEIZE THE DAY…OR 2023!

Starting Fresh

Goals, resolutions, and intentions, OH MY! Happy 2023! This time of year, you are bombarded with information about starting fresh and making this year the best one yet. I’m all for new beginnings and dreaming big. Actually, if I’m being honest, it’s my favorite time of year. I love having a ‘clean slate’ to start fresh. Yes, we can start fresh any time of year but there’s something to be said of the energy of everyone ready to begin again. With new beginnings come fresh opportunities - a way of seeing things in a different light. It is absolutely a beautiful time.

After the excitement of the new year dies down, we tend to fall back into the habits we’ve created. And old habits die hard! Then the feelings of shame, guilt, regret, and judgment start to kick in and they don’t serve you at all. So, what is it that you can do differently this year, to create the change you desire to bring forth the life you’ve always wanted to live and experience? Go inward. Tune into your inner wisdom. It holds all the answers.

Too often I find that clients want to have a better job or lose weight or be in a relationship because society and those around them say that’s what will make them happy. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be happy. It’s a spectacular intention to have! What is important is where your intention comes from.

Here are some things to ponder:

1.      Does your intention around being happy come from the desire to please those around you or to keep up with the Joneses? Or does it truly come from within?

2.     Where does your intention come from?

3.     Why do you want ‘x’ in your life?

Simple but deep questions, and ones that could change the trajectory of your year. When you tune into your own guidance you allow your soul to lead the way rather than having external factors lead your life. And that is when the big shifts take place!

Resolutions vs. Intentions

These two words get thrown around a lot during this time of year even though they mean different things. While the meanings are different, the energy of the two words varies as well. I find that the word “resolution” carries a more masculine energy while ‘intention’ carries a more feminine energy.

Masculine energy is about being productive, taking action, doing, and accomplishing tasks… outward energy.

Feminine energy is about being, it's passive and receptive, it flows, tuning into your intuition, and creating.

The masculine creates the structure for the feminine to flow. If we compare it to a water bottle, the bottle is the energy of the masculine and the water is the energy of the feminine. Both are equally important. The two energies are needed when changing your habits, thought patterns, and creating the life you desire.

Resolutions are typically more structured. Usually, resolutions are similar to SMART goals, in the sense that they are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. All of these things are action-oriented. Action is aligned with masculine energy.

Whereas intentions tend to be softer, qualitative, and compassionate. They aren’t as action-driven, rather they allow us to be more receptive, to surrender and slow down, which is aligned with feminine energy. Intentions do include some level of specificity but they aren’t as easily measured as the experience unfolds.

For Example:

As you are creating your dream life it is important to balance both the masculine and feminine energies within you. Both are required to design a life you love. Remember the water bottle analogy from earlier? You can’t have just the water [feminine] you also need the bottle to create structure [masculine]. As you align with what is in your life, I encourage you to tune inward and with the guidance of your inner wisdom, set your resolutions and intentions. Reflect on the following:

  • What are you being led to change or improve in your life?

  • Why are you being led to this?

  • How will it make your life experience better or more enjoyable?

FEEL into each resolution and intention. Is it truly what you want in your life? If it is, then awesome! Take aligned action. If not, what is it that you want? Choose differently. You have that freedom. Once you make the choice that feels most aligned, start taking action!
